AAT
Accelerated Route
If you are an
Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) student or member,
you may be eligible for exemptions from the CIMA
qualification. CIMA has an arrangement with the AAT and offer
direct entry to the professional qualification to all AAT
members and students who have completed the technician stage.
In the UK one in nine students comes to CIMA via the AAT
route.
AAT Gateway
AAT Gateway
is a new site dedicated to AAT students who are considering
studying with CIMA. The site content includes, jobs, career
tips, events, relevant news and information and the latest
case studies.
AAT

When you
complete the AAT technician stage and have submitted certified
copies of your technician stage certificate and/or statement
of achievement (including skills tests and exams), you will be
granted exemptions from all five of CIMA's Certificate level
subjects.
-
C1
Fundamentals of Management Accounting
-
C2
Fundamentals of Financial Accounting
-
C3
Fundamentals of Business Mathematics
-
C4
Fundamentals of Business Economics
-
C5
Fundamentals of Ethics, Corporate Governance and Business
Law
Please note:
exemptions are a concession and are only awarded at the
discretion of CIMA.
Registering
with CIMA and applying for exemptions
To be
considered for exemptions you will need to send certified
copies of your AAT technician stage certificate and transcript
to CIMA - details of the subjects you studied and the marks you
achieved. To certify the copies of your certificates and
transcripts you will need to get a responsible person – such
as your manager or a lecturer - to sign them as true copies of
the originals. All certified certificates and transcripts must
be in English. Please do not send original documents as CIMA
cannot guarantee that these will be returned to you.
Before
sending your certified copies of your certificates and
transcripts, please make sure that you have read CIMA's
guidelines (New
window; PDF 494KB) for
sending your educational documents.
Once CIMA has
received certified copies of your certificates and
transcripts, they will contact you with details of any
exemptions awarded and your exemption fees. You will also be
able to view these when you log into your
MY CIMA [New window]
student account.
This is the
time when you will need to consider seriously whether you wish
to accept your exemptions, and you will need to think about
your method of study.
You can find
full details about how to register from the
Become a student area.

Special
arrangement for AAT students
CIMA understand
that you may not receive your documents from the AAT until
after CIMA's 31 July registration and certificate deadline for
the November exam sitting. CIMA therefore agreed with the
AAT to provide a special service to AAT students who have
completed Technician/Diploma level in the AAT June 2007 exams
and would like to register with and enter for the November
exams.
In order to
be eligible for this special arrangement you must first
register with CIMA and submit certified copies of your AAT
Intermediate/Advanced Certificate Level statement of
achievement and/or certificate. You must have registered and
submitted these documents by the 31 July in order to enter
November exams.
Please then
email the AAT from Monday 25 June 2007, using the email
address below, stating that you give permission for your exam
results to be released to CIMA. You will need to give your AAT
student membership number, together with your CIMAContact ID,
so that you can be easily identified.
The AAT will
email CIMA with your exam results early on Tuesday 21 August
2007. This will enable to apply your exemptions in time for
you to enter for the November exams. Please note, your
exemptions will be awarded within seven days of this
date. Only contact CIMA if you have not received your
exemptions after this time.
In
order to be eligible for this special arrangement, please
ensure that you have sent an email to the AAT by 5pm on
Wednesday 15 August 2007.
The email
address to give permission for the AAT to release your
result(s) is:
cimaexemptions@aat.org.uk. You should receive an automated
reply once you have sent the relevant information to the above
address.
Once your
exemptions have been awarded, you will receive official
confirmation in writing. You can also view your exemptions
using your MY CIMA account online.
Please note: in order to be eligible
for this special arrangement you must have taken the AAT exams
in the June 2007 exam sitting. This service cannot be used
to report completion of the technician/diploma level prior to
the June sitting. If you completed the technician/diploma
level before the June sitting, please register and submit
certified copies of your technician level documents.
CIMA also
advise you to check with your centre or the AAT to make sure
all your skills test results have been updated before the exam
results are sent. The AAT will not report any part-completed
levels to CIMA and you will not be able to enter for exams if
the AAT are unable to confirm full completion of the
technician level unless you have provided your technician
level statement of achievement/certificate by the 31 July
deadline.
Accepting
your exemptions
To make an
informed decision about accepting your exemptions please make
sure that you do the following:
-
Check the
last two CIMA exam papers from the subjects you've been
exempt from. You can access them from the exclusive
password-protected student area of the website once you are
registered. Please ensure you make this a priority.
-
Familiarise
yourself with the relevant areas of the CIMA syllabus and
the assessment approach.
You need to
be confident that you could have successfully attempted any
papers that you may be exempt from, since the material will be
built upon in the later stages of the qualification. This is
crucial to your future success in the CIMA exams.
If you are
unsure whether to accept an exemption - perhaps because it is
some years since you covered key topics - CIMA strongly advise
you to waive the exemption and attempt the CIMA paper. You
will need to tell CIMA Contact in writing or by email within
eight weeks of receiving confirmation of your exemptions if
you wish to do this.
If you do not
accept an exemption and then fail the relevant CIMA exam, you
can't get back the original exemption.
CIMA
Certificate in Business Accounting and CIMA Advanced Diploma
in Management Accounting
You will be
awarded the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting when you
have completed the five Certificate level papers. To get the
Certificate level you must successfully sit and pass at least
one of the papers. If you are exempt from the Certificate you
must waive an exemption and complete at least one Certificate
level exam in order to be eligible for this award. If you
choose to accept exemptions from all five Certificate level
papers you will not receive the CIMA Certificate in Business
Accounting. |
